Spearheading a growing public awareness movement to hold big pharmaceutical companies responsible for their uncaring, profit-driven social and political influence is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Born in 1954, he is the third of eleven children of Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy and is a nephew of former President John F. Kennedy (assassinated in 1963), Senator Ted “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy, and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (1915-1944).
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (RFKJ) is an American activist, author, and winning environmental lawyer named on Time magazine’s April 11, 2001 list of “Heroes for the Planet” for his victory helping the Riverkeeper initiative to restore the Hudson River and protect New York City’s drinking water.
With impeccable academic credentials – degrees from Harvard University, London School of Economics, University of Virginia Law School, and Pace University Law School – RFKJ joined the legal counsel team at Morgan & Morgan (ForThePeople.com) in 2016.
RFKJ chairs the Board of Directors for Children’s Health Defense (CHD), a collective devoted to the health of people and our planet. In a candid video, the legal eagle schooled us all:
“Those of you who have been involved in the past in the battle to protect our children from poorly-made vaccines or toxic chemicals in our food or in our water know the power of these industries and how they’ve undermined every institution in our democracy that is supposed to protect little children from powerful, greedy corporations.”
RFKJ explained how Big Pharma mega-corporations have been able to purchase the U.S. Congress through legal lobbying. Also called persuasion or interest representation, lobbyists try to sway the actions, policies or decisions of officials, most often legislators or members of regulatory agencies:
“Even the pharmaceutical companies have been able to purchase Congress. They’re the largest lobbying entity in Washington D.C. They have more lobbyists in Washington D.C. than there are congressman and senators combined.”
Politicians are in it for the money, make no mistake about it. RFKJ continued educating the general public about the bipartisan approach Big Pharma companies are actively pursuing to get away with atrocious corporate behavior:
“They give twice to Congress what the next largest lobbying entity is – which is oil and gas – and four times what defense and aerospace [receive]. Imagine the power they exercise over both Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill. They’ve turned the regulatory agencies that are supposed to be protecting Americans, and particularly our children, from toxic exposure. They’ve captured them and turned them into sock puppets for their own industries.”
Furthermore, said the ace counsel, money is budgeted to wage a propaganda war against the rest of us:
“They’ve compromised the press. If any of you watch the evening news and see the pharmaceutical ads, one after the other, that’s a way of buying the news in this country.”
But wait, there’s more:
“And they undermine the medical establishment. They’ve cowed the scientists and defunded the ones who are trying to tell the truth and they destroy the publications that publish real science.”
Speaking on behalf of Children’s Health Defense to average Americans (particularly those with children injured by Big Pharma products) who lack the time, funding, and resources to wage a legal war against such huge corporate interests, RFKJ promised:
“We’re going to fight this battle for you. We’re going to take it to the streets. We’re going to take it to Congress. We’re going to take it to the regulatory agencies. We’re going to force the press to start covering this issue honestly for the first time in allowing this debate to take place.”
The public advocate emphasized how important this work is:
“Above all, we’re going to take it to the courtroom and we’re going to win these cases and we’re going to find justice for you, for your families, and for our country.”
The CHD website reinforces these practical ideals:
“Our mission is to end the childhood health epidemics by working aggressively to eliminate harmful exposures, hold those responsible accountable, and establish safeguards so this never happens again.”
As I covered late last year, it was Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. who helped win the landmark case brought by then-46-year-old Dewayne Johnson, “a former school groundskeeper who claimed that exposure to Roundup weed killer was the direct cause of his terminal illness despite there being no cautionary language on the packaging about the health hazards linked to exposure.”
After the unprecedented court ruling in favor of Johnson – setting the stage for thousands of future similar lawsuits – RFKJ called out the stakeholders affiliated with the Big Agriculture company which manufactures Roundup:
“This jury found Monsanto acted with malice and oppression because they knew what they were doing was wrong and doing it with reckless disregard for human life. This should send a strong message to the boardroom of Monsanto.”
Monsanto was named in 2013 as the world’s Most Evil Corporation by readers of Health Ranger Mike Adam’s Natural News. In mid-2018, the Big Ag giant merged with equally-evil Bayer (maker of the cancer-causing herbicide Agent Orange) and now hides behind the infamous aspirin manufacturer’s name in an attempt to hide Monsanto’s shameful reputation:
“Bayer will remain the company name. Monsanto will no longer be a company name. The acquired products will retain their brand names and become part of the Bayer portfolio.”
You can run but you cannot hide, as Big Ag and Big Pharma companies are now finding now, thanks in large part to the efforts of determined, smart, savvy, and caring lawyers such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
